A Clemson University official close to the school's football program says interim coach Dabo Swinney will become the Tigers' permanent coach. The official spoke on condition of anonymity Monday morning Dec. 1, 2008 because an official announcement has yet to be made.

Clemson has promoted interim football coach Dabo Swinney to the permanent job. Athletic director Terry Don Phillips said in a news release Monday afternoon that Swinney would get a five-year contract. Swinney took over as interim coach Oct. 13 when Tommy Bowden resigned from the flailing Tigers. He won four of his final five games to become bowl eligible.


Lance Armstrong will ride in the 2009 Tour de France, marking the first time he will compete in that race and the Giro d'Italia in the same year. "I'm committed to riding for the best guy," Armstrong said Monday, acknowledging the taxing schedule could leave him riding in a supporting role in France.
Stephon Marbury's future with the New York Knicks was "not resolved" Monday during a meeting with team president Donnie Walsh, according to the players' association attorney representing him. Marbury arrived at the team's practice facility at 2:25 p.m. and met with Walsh for about 20 minutes. His representative, Hal Biagas, walked out of the building shortly after 3 p.m.

New York Giants' Plaxico Burress arrives at Manhattan Supreme Court for arraignment on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 in New York. Burress accidentally shot himself at a Manhattan nightclub Friday evening and was treated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was released Saturday.

Plaxico Burress has appeared in court on weapons possession charges stemming from an accidental shooting at a Manhattan nightclub.
